Books, Magazines, Videos, and Movies

Most golfers need and want to improve their game.  For some, it becomes an obsession, and they'll love anything they can get their hands on that might help them improve.  There are tons of golf instruction books to choose from.

Just like golf instruction books, there are lots of videos, too, that make great golf gifts, like Golf for Dummies  or Explosive Golf.  Look for the format you prefer to give: DVD or VHS.

There are quite a few movies and videos about golf that aren't instructional - they're meant for entertainment and make great golf gifts.  Some golf fan favorites include Tin Cup (Kevin Costner, Renee Russo)  and Caddyshack (Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield).  Again, be sure to get the video format you prefer: DVD or VHS.

Any golfer who wants to keep up to date on the PGA, the LPGA, or the latest golf tips from the pros would enjoy a magazine subscription.  Consider Golf Digest or Golf World .

Instruction and Practice

There are very few golfers who would not benefit from a golf lesson.  There's always some part of their game that they could work on or improve.  Even professional golfers work with an instructor on a consistent basis.  So consider giving the golf gift of a group or private lesson, or golf school, even if it's just a refresher lesson at the beginning of the season.  Complementary to lessons would be gifts in the form of a driving range membership or range boll tokens.  Every golfer could make use out of those.

Although there's no substitute for practice, practice, and more practice, many golfers turn to training equipment to help improve their game.  Consider giving a training aid (like an IZZO Transfer Station Swing Trainericon) along with an instruction book or video.

Clubs, Equipment, Apparel, and Accessories

For beginning golfers, giving golf clubsicon is a great gift idea, as long as you don't go too expensive or extravagant at first (see the beginner page).  Most beginners don't have their own clubs, they won't be particular about what kind of clubs they get, and the fit of the club to the golfer plays a very small role in how well

they score.  It is not recommended, however, that you give a seasoned golfer new clubs, as the fit of the clubs is important.  Rather, for the better golfer, try a gift certificate to a local golf shop instead of the actual clubs so he/she can choose the style/brand and also have them custom fitted.  An exception to this rule would be to get the 'hottest' club on the market, like a driver by Callaway or wedge by Cleveland.

There are some golf accessoriesicon that are essential, or, at the very least, extremely helpful to have.  These include balls, tees, gloves, shoes, and a bag.  Not all golfers use gloves or even golf shoes, but they are widely used by both professionals and amateurs.  And all of these things will eventually run out or wear out, so new ones are a great gift idea even if they already have them.  New grips for their existing clubs or personalized golf ballsiconor tees are also great golf gifts.

In addition to the "essential" accessories, there are the nice-to-have ones that either make the game more enjoyable or at least would make them feel good because they think they need it - so they would make great gifts!.  These include pull carts, training equipment, warm-up weights, umbrellas, coolers, and head covers.  Don't forget golf gadgets like multi-tools, range finders, shot counters...  even GPS systems. The possibilities are endless!  Try browsing around in an online shop or ask at a local golf shop for something unique.  Also consider golf gifts like logo items, such as head covers, towels, or umbrellas with the logo a favorite sports team.

Like golf accessories, golf apparel has endless possibilities for golf gifts.  You can choose from caps, visors, sunglasses, shirts, socks, sweaters, vests, jackets, and rain suits.  Even if they don't play well, they still want to look good on the course!

Other Ideas

If your golf fan is also a video game fan, consider a golf video game.  For example, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005.  Be sure to select a game for the correct game system (Playstation2, PSP, GameCube, XBox, GameBoy Advance, or PC).

If there is a professional tournament coming to town (or nearby), grab up some tickets to give as golf gifts.  Watching a professional golf tournament in person is a completely different experience than watching one on TV.

Is there a local elite or expensive golf course or club that someone has been wanting to play?  If so, then green fees is a sure-fire winner.  Go to the pro shop at the course and purchase a green fee (or two, or three, or four - depending on how may will be playing) or a gift certificate.  Also, you could reserve a tee time when you know they'll be available to play.  Go even further and plan a golf vacation to play or watch a professional tournament, or both... the ultimate in golf gifts!
